Saturday Series

Welcome to our page for the Saturday Series (fondly known as "CakeO").  The increasingly popular Saturday afternoon events are particularly enjoyed by family groups.  CakeO runs from April-October each year. In off weeks and over summer we often hold informal "BrunchO" training runs on Saturday mornings - see below.

Springthorpe

Sunday, 27 August 2017

A very long, tough and physically demanding course at Springthorpe resulted in low scores, and late penalties left right and centre, as time management went out the window for most of us, and we switched to survival mode.  Brody set up some great route choices, getting us off road and uphill.  Of 61 competitors, only 11 made it back on time, which I think is a record!

Ted and Steven both copped penalties, but they had enough points to finish just ahead of Peter M, who was one of the few A course runners back before 3pm.  On B course, the winners, Graham and Pete, were the only two who finished on time, with the rest of us at least two minutes in arrears (and for some, considerably more).  It was the same story on PW where Marcelle and Angela returned with points intact, to top the standings ahead of Ros, Damian and Des.

We are getting down to the pointy end, with 14 of the 18 scoring events completed, and plenty of people now dropping their lowest scores.  Steven still leads A from Ron and Stephen, but Andrew is only 2 points outside the top three, and Ian is in the mix but needing two more scores to catch up.  B course is similar, with Phil comfortably in front, Philippa in clear second, and me just 2 points ahead of Pete; Reg and Peter D are the big threats.  On PW, Michael has a 5 point margin over Robert, who leads Ros by 4 points. Damian and Kay are neck and neck, just outside the top three.

See you next Saturday at Kingsclere in Noble Park.

Saturday Series

About this series:

Welcome to the Saturday Afternoon Series.

Where:  Parks and streets in and around Melbourne suburbs.

When: 2pm on most Saturdays from April to October.

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors/students

There are two Runners courses (60 mins and 45 mins) and a 60 min Power Walkers course. All courses are SCORE format, with the aim being to visit as many controls as possible in the allocated time.

Refreshments are available after all events. Please stay for a while and bring a plate of food to share. Do not rely on public toilets being available or accessible near start locations on Saturdays.

All Park and Street Orienteering events welcome people of all abilities and ages. There are a range of courses that accommodate everyone from the elite sports person right through to those who are just looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.

Saturday events are ideal for newcomers, and for kids.  Families and friends can participate in groups or individually.  Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.

Printed programs covering all of Melbourne's Park and Street Orienteering events are available at the events. And of course information is available on this website.
