Saturday Series

Welcome to our page for the Saturday Series (fondly known as "CakeO").  The increasingly popular Saturday afternoon events are particularly enjoyed by family groups.  CakeO runs from April-October each year. In off weeks and over summer we often hold informal "BrunchO" training runs on Saturday mornings - see below.

Mill Park Lakes

Sunday, 14 May 2017

Mill Park Lakes is a developing area, and an evolving map.  Course setter Russell kindly evolved the northern hills right out, leaving us with a complex mix of lakes, parks, trails and open spaces, but not too many contours to think about.  It was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  Russell's courses are always a great challenge and this one was no exception, with the two fastest A course runners taking completely different routes.

The fastest three on A course were Ted, Ian and Ron, all scoring a maximum 70 points.  Phil won B course with 44 points - despite only getting 2 of the 5 pointers, he focused on the 3 and 4 pointers, which was enough for the win. Philippa was second, just ahead of Dennis in third.  PW was a close one, with Rob and Ros each scoring 47, but Rob returning first. Kay was third on 43, only one point ahead of Chris and Ian.  Looks quite a few PW competitors were enjoying themselves so much, they forgot to come back by 3.05!

Overall, Stephen, Peter M and Andrew are the A course leaders.  Philippa, Phil and Ray lead B course, and Robert, Michael and Ros are on top of PW.  Next week there's no cake-O, but don't despair - come to the Sprint Double at Yarra Valley Grammar School next Sunday instead!  Click here for all the details - entry closes on Wednesday May 17.  The following Saturday, May 27, is EndurO no 2, at Burnley, so prepare for a 2 hour or 90 minute Score event - note the 90 min event starts at 2.15pm (not 2.30pm).

Saturday Series

About this series:

Welcome to the Saturday Afternoon Series.

Where:  Parks and streets in and around Melbourne suburbs.

When: 2pm on most Saturdays from April to October.

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors/students

There are two Runners courses (60 mins and 45 mins) and a 60 min Power Walkers course. All courses are SCORE format, with the aim being to visit as many controls as possible in the allocated time.

Refreshments are available after all events. Please stay for a while and bring a plate of food to share. Do not rely on public toilets being available or accessible near start locations on Saturdays.

All Park and Street Orienteering events welcome people of all abilities and ages. There are a range of courses that accommodate everyone from the elite sports person right through to those who are just looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.

Saturday events are ideal for newcomers, and for kids.  Families and friends can participate in groups or individually.  Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.

Printed programs covering all of Melbourne's Park and Street Orienteering events are available at the events. And of course information is available on this website.
