Saturday Series

Welcome to our page for the Saturday Series (fondly known as "CakeO").  The increasingly popular Saturday afternoon events are particularly enjoyed by family groups.  CakeO runs from April-October each year. In off weeks and over summer we often hold informal "BrunchO" training runs on Saturday mornings - see below.

We had a nice new start location which luckily gave shelter from the wind, and the pre-start burst of sunshine was much enjoyed!  Allan set a good thought provoking course which sent us in all directions.  Some (ok me) got stuck inside the brand new doggie play enclosure at Eastfield Park which had sprung up almost overnight - the joys of ever changing maps!

Steven, Ian, Ron and Martin all scored 70 points and took the top places on A course. Peter D scored 55 to win B course from Denise on 52 and Mark on 48 (while I ran round in circles inside the aforementioned fence, which was not a very productive way to spend 5 minutes). Damian won PW with 58 points, ahead of Michael on 54, Robert and Barry on 53, and Peter G on 50.

Overall there was a shakeup on A course where Steven is now leading, Ron is 3 points in arrears, and Stephen is third. On BB, Phil retains the lead, Philippa is back up to second, and I'm third, but under threat from Reg, Ray and Peter D. On PW, Michael, Robert and Ros are still the top three, but expect to see challenges from Kay, Damian and Barry as we draw closer to the end of the series.

Next week's event is at Boulder Dash in Northcote.  If you don't like hills, this one is perfect for you!  The following Saturday, August 12, is EndurO no 3, starting from Schwerkolt Cottage in Mitcham, and taking in the delights of Yarran Dheran, Ringwood North, and the Eastlink trails.  There will be 40 controls on the map, and you can choose to Run or Walk for 120 or 90 minutes.  Register from 1.30pm to start at 2pm for the 120, or 2.15pm for the 90 (note: times differ from those shown in the printed program).  Entry is the normal $5/$2, or free if you have a season ticket.  Take the challenge!

Saturday Series

About this series:

Welcome to the Saturday Afternoon Series.

Where:  Parks and streets in and around Melbourne suburbs.

When: 2pm on most Saturdays from April to October.

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors/students

There are two Runners courses (60 mins and 45 mins) and a 60 min Power Walkers course. All courses are SCORE format, with the aim being to visit as many controls as possible in the allocated time.

Refreshments are available after all events. Please stay for a while and bring a plate of food to share. Do not rely on public toilets being available or accessible near start locations on Saturdays.

All Park and Street Orienteering events welcome people of all abilities and ages. There are a range of courses that accommodate everyone from the elite sports person right through to those who are just looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.

Saturday events are ideal for newcomers, and for kids.  Families and friends can participate in groups or individually.  Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.

Printed programs covering all of Melbourne's Park and Street Orienteering events are available at the events. And of course information is available on this website.
