Saturday Series

Welcome to our page for the Saturday Series (fondly known as "CakeO").  The increasingly popular Saturday afternoon events are particularly enjoyed by family groups.  CakeO runs from April-October each year. In off weeks and over summer we often hold informal "BrunchO" training runs on Saturday mornings - see below.

Harvey Heights

Tuesday, 9 May 2017

Harvey Heights harks back to the early days of park and street orienteering, named after founding Dandenong Ranges member Ron Harvey, and nestled at the foot of the Dandenongs, where many of the first maps were.  It comes in two distinct parts - the gentle lower slopes of The Basin, and the REALLY steep hills 'up the back".  If you wanted to maximise your points, you had to tackle both sections.

Well done to Andrew, the only person to score 70 points, and hence the winner of A course.  Rick and Stephen scored 68 and 67 respectively.  Carolyn adn Bill (home ground advantage?) were the highest scorers on B course with 49 and 45 points, ahead of Philippa, Ray and Phil all on 40.  Looks like most people opted to power walk, and Michael led the results in a big field, scoring 48 points ahead of Lauris on 47, and Barry on 43.

After week 4, we have Stephen leading A course from Andrew and Peter M; Philippa in front of Ray and me on B course, and Michael ahead of Robert and Ian on PW.  You need a score from 9 events across the Saturday Series, to count towards the overall results.

It was lovely to come back to the picnic shelter at picturesque Wicks Reserve, among the tall trees, and have a hot cuppa and cake while you compared your course with friends and rivals.  Why not do the same next week at Mill Park Lakes?  This is a really interesting, and ever evolving map with something for everyone to enjoy.

Saturday Series

About this series:

Welcome to the Saturday Afternoon Series.

Where:  Parks and streets in and around Melbourne suburbs.

When: 2pm on most Saturdays from April to October.

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors/students

There are two Runners courses (60 mins and 45 mins) and a 60 min Power Walkers course. All courses are SCORE format, with the aim being to visit as many controls as possible in the allocated time.

Refreshments are available after all events. Please stay for a while and bring a plate of food to share. Do not rely on public toilets being available or accessible near start locations on Saturdays.

All Park and Street Orienteering events welcome people of all abilities and ages. There are a range of courses that accommodate everyone from the elite sports person right through to those who are just looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.

Saturday events are ideal for newcomers, and for kids.  Families and friends can participate in groups or individually.  Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.

Printed programs covering all of Melbourne's Park and Street Orienteering events are available at the events. And of course information is available on this website.
