Saturday Series

Welcome to our page for the Saturday Series (fondly known as "CakeO").  The increasingly popular Saturday afternoon events are particularly enjoyed by family groups.  CakeO runs from April-October each year. In off weeks and over summer we often hold informal "BrunchO" training runs on Saturday mornings - see below.

EndurO 3 at Loughnans Link, Saturday August 12

Wednesday, 9 August 2017

The third and final EndurO was held on Loughnans Link, starting at Schwerkolt Cottage, and heading into Ringwood North and Mitcham, via Yarran Dheran and the Eastlink trail.  A very tough course thanks to the hills, and plenty to think about.  The high points were gettable, making the lower points important if you wanted to edge out the competition by 10 or 20 points - great job by course setter Phil Torode.

Congratulations to our winners: Steven scored 900 points to claim victory on the 120 min Run course, just 10 points clear of Bruce. Ian scored 870 points to take third, only 10 points ahead of Rick.  Emma was the fastest female, on 820 points, a great effort.

Scores were also very close on the 120 min Walk, with Merv the winner on 690 points, a whisker ahead of Ros on 680 and Mike on 660.  Peter G scored 640, just 10 points in front of Ron on 630.

While the winner on the 90 min Run had an easy victory, it was very tight for the placings. Tim scored 750 points, ahead of Peter M and Steve L, both on 690 points. Stephen C scored 670, and Peter C was just behind on 650. Fastest female was yours truly, with 540 points.

The 90 min Walk was taken out by Dennis with 530 points in another  close result; Graham was second with 500, then Pete on 480.  Lyn and Geoff each scored 460.

Cake-O resumes on Saturday August 26 at Springthorpe.

Saturday Series

About this series:

Welcome to the Saturday Afternoon Series.

Where:  Parks and streets in and around Melbourne suburbs.

When: 2pm on most Saturdays from April to October.

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors/students

There are two Runners courses (60 mins and 45 mins) and a 60 min Power Walkers course. All courses are SCORE format, with the aim being to visit as many controls as possible in the allocated time.

Refreshments are available after all events. Please stay for a while and bring a plate of food to share. Do not rely on public toilets being available or accessible near start locations on Saturdays.

All Park and Street Orienteering events welcome people of all abilities and ages. There are a range of courses that accommodate everyone from the elite sports person right through to those who are just looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.

Saturday events are ideal for newcomers, and for kids.  Families and friends can participate in groups or individually.  Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.

Printed programs covering all of Melbourne's Park and Street Orienteering events are available at the events. And of course information is available on this website.
