Saturday Series

Welcome to our page for the Saturday Series (fondly known as "CakeO").  The increasingly popular Saturday afternoon events are particularly enjoyed by family groups.  CakeO runs from April-October each year. In off weeks and over summer we often hold informal "BrunchO" training runs on Saturday mornings - see below.

Lillydale Lake

Sunday, 18 June 2017

What a lovely winter afternoon it was out at Lillydale!  Some people may have been fooled by the word "Lake" in the map name.  Yes lakes are flat - but the surrounds aren't!  Course setter Pete gave us several options - round the lake to the north, or down into the hillier south (which of course was where all the nice points were).  Lots of choices along the way too, and we certainly had to be careful about when to cut our losses and head for home - some managed this better than others.

Andrew B was first of the four A runners who scored 70 points, the others were Steven, Ron and Vic. A couple of others came very close, with Ian G just missing the cut.  On B course, Peter D was a comfortable winner with 51 points ahead of Phil on 46 and Philly on 44.  Rob took the win on PW with 52 points, after Michael was unable to get back on time. Kay was third on 47 points, just nudging out the pack of Barry, Peter K and Damian (who deserves brownie points for his efforts with the stroller!)

We're eight events in, so fast approaching the point where competitors begin to drop their worst scores. Stephen leads A course from Ron and Andrew H,while Phil is just ahead of Philippa and Ray on B course. Robert, Michael and Kay are the top three on PW.

CakeO takes a short break next Saturday, but returns on July 1 at Koolunga in Ferntree Gully.  See you there!

Saturday Series

About this series:

Welcome to the Saturday Afternoon Series.

Where:  Parks and streets in and around Melbourne suburbs.

When: 2pm on most Saturdays from April to October.

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors/students

There are two Runners courses (60 mins and 45 mins) and a 60 min Power Walkers course. All courses are SCORE format, with the aim being to visit as many controls as possible in the allocated time.

Refreshments are available after all events. Please stay for a while and bring a plate of food to share. Do not rely on public toilets being available or accessible near start locations on Saturdays.

All Park and Street Orienteering events welcome people of all abilities and ages. There are a range of courses that accommodate everyone from the elite sports person right through to those who are just looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.

Saturday events are ideal for newcomers, and for kids.  Families and friends can participate in groups or individually.  Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.

Printed programs covering all of Melbourne's Park and Street Orienteering events are available at the events. And of course information is available on this website.
