A new start in the southern part of the map, along with quiet, narrow streets, and small parks full of tall eucalypts, gave the event a very pleasant "bush" feel despite being in the northern suburbs. Even the neighbours were out cheering us on and inviting us in for cups of tea. But there were still decisions to be made, hills to be scaled, and controls to be punched. Course setting was a team effort thanks to Heather, Glen, Ashley and Callum, and they did a great job. The afore-mentioned contours certainly came into play, strongly influencing route choices.
Steven capped off a good week with another win on A course, with Nick and Russell taking the places. Damian is more familiar among power walkers, but he showed his versatility by winning B, ahead of Geoff and Katherine. First back on C course were Peter L, David, and Bryan, while on D course, young Maya showed the rest of us a clean pair of heels, with dad Gavin second and Ewen third. Len scored 58 points on PW, with Dave on 53 and Ian on 49.
Our overall leaderboard is looking like this - leading on A course are Steven, Phil, and a tie between Russell and Stephen. Stuart is first on B course ahead of Katherine. Peter L leads C course with Daniel second and Reg third. Ewen has a one point lead over me, and I have a one point lead over Pete, on D course. Len B, Barry and Len H are the early leaders on PW. See you next Thursday at Park Orchards. This will be your last chance to buy season tickets. Important Notice: on Thursday November 9, the start for the event at Rosanna will be at De Winton Park, Strasbourg Road. This is just a short distance south of Rosanna Railway Station, which is closed for construction works.

Northern Series
Welcome to the Northern Series - Park and Street orienteering in Melbourne's north.
Where: Northern suburbs of Melbourne
When: 7:00pm Thursdays October-March
Cost: $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)
What to bring:
jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.
Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.
Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome,
but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can
ensure enough maps are printed.
In
summer, there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60
minute power walkers' course. For runners the format is Scatter (visit a
designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for
power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you
can in the allocated time). The Thursday series does not operate over winter, but there is a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday series to choose from.
