We should have named this one Beverley's Hills, after a team effort by Merv and Bev to set the course, which was very enjoyable with plenty to think about as well. It was also Oscars week, and some competitors swanned around like celebrities on the timber lounge chairs thoughtfully installed in the park. All that was missing were the cocktails. Ian fooled everyone by switching to A course, and winning ahead of Ron and Phil. Steven has been in great form and he took out B course from David and Damian, who have both also been on the improve. Tony won C from newcomer Bryan and regular Reg, while Graham was first back on D course, and I snatched second from Rachel by a last minute dive at the finish punch. Ros and Angela each scored 44 points on PW, but Ros managed to return first; Rosie took third after outscoring Dennis by a point.
A course remains up for grabs with Ted set to win, but Vic is only a point clear of Ron, and Warwick is well placed to grab second with a good result next week. While Ray improved his position on B, he won't be able to catch Ian or Russell. On C, Phil and Reg won't be caught and Judi is now 5 points ahead of Dennis for third. D course is also settled as I gained a few extra points on Ruth. As predicted, Ros moved way up to second behind Len; Angela and Rosie are only a point apart for third, with Geoff still a chance as well.

Northern Series
Welcome to the Northern Series - Park and Street orienteering in Melbourne's north.
Where: Northern suburbs of Melbourne
When: 7:00pm Thursdays October-March
Cost: $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)
What to bring:
jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.
Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.
Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome,
but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can
ensure enough maps are printed.
In
summer, there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60
minute power walkers' course. For runners the format is Scatter (visit a
designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for
power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you
can in the allocated time). The Thursday series does not operate over winter, but there is a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday series to choose from.
