Edwardes Lake

The last Qualifier was held at Edwardes Lake, which is mercifully flatter than some recent Northern series maps! Champs Final places were on the line so again some were competing on different courses than normal. Course setter Tim ensured that our brains were engaged, and the shortest routes were anything but obvious - I was pretty happy to knock half a km of the suggested length for C course by picking an unconventional route.
A course winners were Ted, Ron and Warwick. On B, Steven took the points from Ian and Tim. Tony, Phil and Cormac were first back on C course. Ewen, Sue and Ray were quickest on D course. The PW results were very close, with Len and Dennis scoring 49, Ros, Angela and Marcelle all on 45, then Geoff and Chris on 44 and 43 - very little between the top half of the field.
Overall, its still very tight on A course between Vic, Ron and Phil for the minor placings behind Ted; and Warwick is still well in contention. B course does not look like having any last minute surprises with Ian, Russell and Ray set to be the winners. Phil retains the lead on C course, Reg remains second, but Judi has moved to third, 2 points clear of Dennis. Daniel is still a chance for third and his recent form has been very strong. Changes are unlikely on D course where Ewen, me and Ruth have the top 3 spots in our grasp. It's not so clear on PW where Len will win comfortably, but there is a three way fight for second between Rosie, Geoff and Angela, with Ros still able to cause a big upset.
See you next Thursday at Beverley Hills - yes it's Oscars week, so glam up if you feel so inclined!

Northern Series
Welcome to the Northern Series - Park and Street orienteering in Melbourne's north.
Where: Northern suburbs of Melbourne
When: 7:00pm Thursdays October-March
Cost: $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)
What to bring:
jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.
Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.
Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome,
but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can
ensure enough maps are printed.
In
summer, there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60
minute power walkers' course. For runners the format is Scatter (visit a
designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for
power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you
can in the allocated time). The Thursday series does not operate over winter, but there is a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday series to choose from.
