Whites Corner

The last scoring event for the Northern Series saw a return to the infamous Whites Corner map where some of us got a little "hung up" on a notorious fence, after a brutal course set by Russell. This time it was Ruth's turn, and she was a little kinder, though the hills were still hard work. The controls just to the west looked very inviting, but turned out not to be the best option for shorter courses (I wish I had realised this before leaving the start rather than half way into my course!). The results did not throw up too many surprises - winners were Ted, Phil and Rachel on A course; Ian, Steven and Glenn on B course; Brody, Cormac and Phil on C course; Tony, Rachel and me on D course; and Angela, Marcelle and Lei on PW.
Overall, the winners have now been declared. While Ted won A course comfortably, the battle for places saw Ron, Vic and Phil all within two points of each other in a very close result. Ian won B in a canter, with Russell in second and Ray edging out David for third. Phil was another clear winner on C course with Reg second, and Judi beating Dennis for third by 3 points. Ewen's perfect score of 1100 gave him victory on D course from me and Ruth. And Len took out PW, Ros grabbed second spot, and Angela finished third.
Congratulations to everyone - next Thursday's event will be a fun puzzle-solving event to wrap up the series, with certificates to be presented afterwards. See you there!

Northern Series
Welcome to the Northern Series - Park and Street orienteering in Melbourne's north.
Where: Northern suburbs of Melbourne
When: 7:00pm Thursdays October-March
Cost: $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)
What to bring:
jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.
Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.
Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome,
but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can
ensure enough maps are printed.
In
summer, there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60
minute power walkers' course. For runners the format is Scatter (visit a
designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for
power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you
can in the allocated time). The Thursday series does not operate over winter, but there is a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday series to choose from.
