A night for the stoic - Melbourne's famously capricious weather provided us with a drenching, calling for raincoats and plastic bags to stop our precious maps turning to papier mache. Course setter Rob made excellent use of Bundoora Parklands, with only one control on a street feature (we'll forgive him for sticking no 20 on Mt Cooper, the highest point in Melbourne. The views are worth the climb, even in the rain!) To compensate, we all got nice high scores which will boost our overall standings.
It's been a few weeks since we checked in with the overall situation. Russell leads A course from Warwick; Steven has a perfect score of 6 wins from 6, but is one event behind. Damin is out on front on B, with a tie for second between Geoff and Katherine. Dennis has kept his lead intact on C, with Andrew in good form for second, and Philippa in third; the wins have been well spread among several people. Ewen has leapt away on D course with four wins in a row; he leads Kathy and me. On PW, Len has 8 wins from 8, with closest challengers Barry and Muriel.
Next week we head to Merrilands, a brand new map out Reservoir way - and a dry forecast!

Northern Series
Welcome to the Northern Series - Park and Street orienteering in Melbourne's north.
Where: Northern suburbs of Melbourne
When: 7:00pm Thursdays October-March
Cost: $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)
What to bring:
jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.
Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.
Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome,
but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can
ensure enough maps are printed.
In
summer, there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60
minute power walkers' course. For runners the format is Scatter (visit a
designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for
power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you
can in the allocated time). The Thursday series does not operate over winter, but there is a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday series to choose from.
