Street Orienteering at Scotch College
Thursday, 5 March 2009
This week Scotch College hosted the Wednesday Summer Series event. Regular attendees always look forward to a unique event when we visit this prominent Melbourne school and this year was no exception. Competitors were faced with well thought-out courses which varied in format, most featuring two maps including the high detail colour Scotch map.
Scotch is on the feared Heyington Heights BK map which features the Yarra River, the Monash Tollway and a rail line for good measure, making careful control and route choice critical. Competitors with experience of this map had a definite advantage. A number of the best 'A' course runners got caught at the rail crossing just prior to the map changeover, resulting in a true sprint finish around the school to determine the evening's winner.
Thanks to all the Scotch students who set the courses, manned the map changeover and did all the other tasks required to ensured a successful event.

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing. Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).
Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.
Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.
In winter, there are 2 courses for runners. These are Score

In summer, there are 5 runners courses ranging from 2.5-10 km,
and a 60 minute power walkers' course. For runners the format is
Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back
