Ruffey Lake

Ah, Ruffey Lake ... a lovely start location at the bottom of the hills. The significance of this quickly dawns on you as soon as someone calls "Go!" and you are faced with contours in all directions. The course setters did a great job, not only setting a physical challenge, but plenty of thinking as well - I was still making up my mind right until the second last control, and there were a lot of route choices to consider. Great to have a number of controls in the park itself, and it was a joyous experience to hit the top of the final ridge and fly downhill to the finish, with the sun just dipping below the trees.
Peter H became the first multiple A course winner with his second consecutive victory; Bryan, Paul, Colin and Ian comprised the rest of the top five. Nick finally scored his first win on B, ahead of James, Tim, Bruce, and Lanita. Janine was fastest on C course, ahead of Patrick, Tim, David and Graham. Carolyn was another back to back winner on D, leading Ewen, Chris, Jonathan and Sarah. Melanie broke through on E course, ahead of the family pack of Mackenzie, Milla and Sam. On PW, Len scored 60 points, Damian was next with 56, then Dave, Mark and Garry.
No change to the top 3 on A course where Paul leads Geoff and Rick. Tim has a 3 point margin over Nick on B course, with Steven two points behind, and Lanita only a whisker outside the top 3. On C course, Janine overhauled Brett to take the lead, with Ray still third. No change on D for me, Jenelle and Pam, nor on E course for Pat and Melanie. On PW, Dave and Ron are still first and second, but Bernie has moved to third. Phil and Kay are tied for equal 4th, two points out of the placings.
See you next Wednesday at Blind Creek in Wantirna (a great map which is much gentler with the contours).

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing. Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).
Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.
Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.
In winter, there are 2 courses for runners. These are Score

mins or 45 mins. There is also a 60 min Score course for Power
Walkers.
In summer, there are 5 runners courses ranging from 2.5-10 km,
and a 60 minute power walkers' course. For runners the format is
Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back
