You have to love a course that still has you puzzling over it right up till the last control.  Chris dangled a nice bunch of controls that were not too far away, and they clearly beckoned - but I needed 9 controls - and of course there was a lovely loop of 8.  So I sweated at great length at which 3 of 10, 5, 17, 8, 9, 18 or 20 I should get.  The answer never did become clear (the best courses never do).  From all accounts, everyone else had similar dilemmas.

Bruce made it two wins from two starts, returning ahead of Peter H, Paul Ian and Colin.  The fierce competition on B continued with James prevailing over Tim, Steven, Lanita and Bruce. Janine, Brett, David, Andrew and Dennis were fastest on C course.  Jonathan, Ewen, me, Matt and Murray were back first on D, while Melanie returned ahead of Pat on E.  Len's score of 61 points was enough for a win ahead of Mark, Ron, Garry and Muriel, making her first top five appearance.

Overall, everyone is still in single divisions, but expect that to change shortly.  Meanwhile, Paul, Geoff and Rick lead A course, with Peter a smidgeon ahead on averages but two events in arrears.  Tim, Steven and Bruce are in front on B course, but the 100s have been spread around so it's all very close.  C course has Brett, Prue and Robert on top, with Janine leading the averages.  I'm leading D course from Jenelle and Pam, but Carolyn has a perfect score from her four events. Pat leads Melanie on E, but their average is the same, so it will be interesting to see where that finishes up.  Ron, Bernie and Dave lead PW, with Dave highest on average.

See you next Wednesday at Burnley Maze - please make sure you park as per parking signs on Yarra Boulevard.

Eastern Series Information

About this series:

Where: Eastern suburbs of Melbourne

When: 7:00pm Wednesdays; all year round

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In winter, there are 2 courses for runners.  These are Score format, where you visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, with the aim of earning as many points as possible.  Times are 60 mins or 45 mins.  There is also a 60 min Score course for Power Walkers.

In summer, there are 5 runners courses ranging from 2.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).
