This course was quite a toughie - long and hilly in places.  Although the 5 pointers were mostly gettable by most people, you had to be selective about what else you went for.  Five runners did manage to get all the points - well done.  Tim was quickest, followed by Paul Steven, Bryan and Ted.  Ian returned to the B course winner's circle with 56 points, ahead of Tim, Nick, Bill and Mark.  Tony won PW with 47 points, just ahead of Mark, Ron, Robert and Peter B.

This was the penultimate Wednesday event, with only one more chance to improve your score.  The battle continues on A1 where Tim leads Andrew H by 2 points, and Steven, Ian and Paul are all slugging it out for third with only 2 points separating the three of them.  It's a different story on A2 where Andrew B has a big lead over Rick and Martin, and no threats from anyone. On A3, Roger has a 5 point lead over rival Ray; Stuart is third but Ken is the potential spoiler with one event required. Peter L will have an uncontested win on A4.

B1 has been a fascinating three way fight between Tim, Nick and Ian - although the points are very close, that is the order they will finish the series in.  B2 has Graham in the lead, from Jonathan and me; if Brett runs next week he will beat all of us.  Libby has a massive lead on B3, with the placings going to Suzy and John.

PW1 is yet another very tight finish, but Tony will score the win over Dave by the narrowest of margins, and Mark will claim third.  Barry is just ahead of Kay on PW2, and Richard is only a point behind Lyn for third place.  Noel has a very comfortable margin over Mike and Gwennyth on PW3, with Pam, Pat and Allan all able to claim a place.  PW4 will go to Suzanne, ahead of Keith and the Newbury Navigators.

The series concludes next Wednesday at Knox Fields.  Presentations will be held the following Wednesday at Forest Chase, at the first Eastern Summer Series event.  Don't forget that season tickets will be on sale for the first 3 weeks of Summer Series - just $60 per series, which means you save up to $50!!  You must be a member of an orienteering club to be eligible - first time members can join now for 2018 membership.

Eastern Series Information

About this series:

Where: Eastern suburbs of Melbourne

When: 7:00pm Wednesdays; all year round

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In winter, there are 2 courses for runners.  These are Score format, where you visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, with the aim of earning as many points as possible.  Times are 60 mins or 45 mins.  There is also a 60 min Score course for Power Walkers.

In summer, there are 5 runners courses ranging from 2.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).
