Blackburn North

Monday, 6 November 2017

It was congratulations to Schon for completing her 1500th event tonight at Blackburn North, and welcome back to Camberwell Grammar, who are getting in some early practice for the upcoming Schools competition in their quest to claim the highly coveted trophy.  Course setter Prue stuck mostly to the north side of Springfield Road, though the B course faced a dilemma about whether to head south for some of their 14 controls.  First glances were deceptive as some controls in the northwest section looked close, but weren't.  That caused a bias towards the east for those on shorter courses.

Peter H was first back on A course, follwed by Bryan, Ian, Paul, and Colin.  Steven won B course, which has become super competitive this year; next were Tim, Lanita, Nick and Nicholas. Camberwell Grammar featured prominently on C course, claiming the top five spots with Patrick, Tom I, Ash, Tom B, and Edmund doing the honours.  On D, it was Carolyn first over the line, followed by Benjamin, Keith, Denise and Matt.  On E, Pat was quickest ahead of Melanie and Nicholas.  Len's score of 59 on PW was enough to win from Dave on 55, then Mark and Tony on 53, and Evan on 49 - great to see some new names.

Overall A course has seen three different winners in three weeks, but Paul retains the lead ahead of Geoff and Rick.  B course is super close with Tim in front, followed by Steven in second, and Nick and Lanita tied for third.  Brett is leading C course from Janine, who is a whisker in front of Ray.  I'm first on D, ahead of Jenelle and Pam.  Pat leads Melanie on E.  Dave has taken the early lead on PW, ahead of Ron and Phil.

See you next Wednesday at Ruffey Lake.

Eastern Series Information

About this series:

Where: Eastern suburbs of Melbourne

When: 7:00pm Wednesdays; all year round

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In winter, there are 2 courses for runners.  These are Score format, where you visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, with the aim of earning as many points as possible.  Times are 60 mins or 45 mins.  There is also a 60 min Score course for Power Walkers.

In summer, there are 5 runners courses ranging from 2.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).
