Geelong StreetO - Storm Alert Continues (again !!)

I can repeat what I said last week about the weather - storms threatened, it didn't happen.

A strong contingent of participants chose to ignore the threat of rain and turned out to enjoy the challenging course set by Toby C. Corio is a very flat area, but the non-standard layout of streets with interconnecting parks makes for an interesting StreetO event. Toby made good use of the local features to ensure all grades had lots to think about.

We didn't have any medieval groups to be concerned about this week, but returning participants were greeted by the gruesome sight of a bloodied Don F. He was not perturbed at all with the grazing on his chin and trickle of blood down his arm and leg, as he chatted about route choices post-event. The rest of us were very pleased and grateful when 2 participants cracked open the first aid kit and helped to clean and bandage Don !! (Don also passes on his thanks).

The MyOMaps trial continues with high participation rates and similar outcomes from previous weeks. We will continue to operate in the traditional StreetO manner but with the enthusiasm and outcomes to date our view is to continue the concurrent trial of MyOMaps into the 2nd half of the series in 2018. Your co-ordinating group will consider this further in the next couple of weeks.

With 4 events completed, you'd expect to see some trends emerging regarding overall series leaders.

In A grade many of our runners have completed only 2 or 3 events so it's still wide open. This week Andrew T was first home in A grade, with Mark C and Steve G next.

Glenn M turned the tables on Heath McL this week with a first place in B grade, with Alf B and Stuart McW next.
Tegan W enjoyed her first run in B grade, having stepped up from C grade.

Mel B took advantage of Brad S having to work late to win C grade, with Peter B, Fiona F and Frank E next.

Jeanne K, Celestine L and Sofie vG enjoyed D grade.

Ben K with 63 points continued on his winning ways in the walking, finishing ahead of  Henk and Linelle K (60 pts). Regulars Marina K, Kathy W and Lorraine C enjoyed their walk.

This coming week is our King of the Mountain event. We'll start from Montpellier Primary School, Highton at 7pm on Thursday 7/12.

There's a lot of prestige (well - I think so !!) in claiming one of those polka dot coffee mugs, so the challenge is on for all grades to make like a mountain goat !!

We do expect to see some of our Melbourne based StreetO participants taking up the challenge, so our challenge is to keep those mugs in G'town !!

Cheers,
Alan Cooke
