Jan Juc Nailed Again !!!
Is Jan Juc the perfect location for street orienteering ?? Cliff-side tracks, sandy trails, irregular street layout, watercourse and associated parkland snaking through the centre of the map, rolling hills, multiple walkways linking roads, ocean views - how could it be any better ?!?! Course setter, Peter B, has once again captured all the features that the area has to offer, and set a course that challenged everyone's navigation and route selection. In A grade, it was Sam M first home from Ron T, followed by regulars Andrew T and Toby C. The smarter navigational choices of Don F, saw him first home in B grade followed by myself, Geoff L and Frank E. Fiona made it a very successful night for the Fell family, by being first home in C grade, with Stuart McW next. Heather L and John G enjoyed having an event in their back yard, being first home in D grade. The leaders in the walking have changed from week to week for this series. This pattern continued, with Michael H the standout in this event with 67 points. In a tight finish for second place it was the astute navigator Helen A (59pts) that held off Fiona K and Des G (both on 58 pts).
We now have 4 events remaining in the series. Keep in mind that to qualify as the series winner in each of the grades, you must complete a minimum of 6 events in that grade. For those participants with a competitive nature, you should study the overall results for your grade to get a clear understanding of your current standing and who your competitors are. Of course, we are not all competitive and many of us seek the simple joy of participation in a sport that introduces us to many new neighbourhoods.
Next weeks event will Douglass St, Herne Hill on Thursday 9th Feb with the usual 7pm start. Cheers Alan Cooke 0427 777 061
