Geelong Street-O  -  Magical Mystery Tour

The magical mystery tour known as MyOMaps was launched on the Geelong series last Thursday 9th November at the Rippleside event and what a blast it was !!

But before I go further into that, high praise needs to be passed to our course setter for the night, Stuart McW.
Whether we follow traditional street orienteering methods or adapt an electronic based system like MyOMaps, we still need the fundamental skills of a good course setter to assure a successful event.

Well done Stuart.

A majority of participants chose to trial MyOMaps with the overwhelming response being extremely positive.
The launch was not without some issues, with some participants having difficult downloading the app to their smartphone, some not "beeping" and all of us simply needing time to become familiar with the system.

Like everyone else, I ran the course with card in hand expecting that I'd need to use it at some stage.
My card was returned unpunched !!
Every control I visited beeped as planned.

The realisation was borne that MyOMaps can work well !!
The pressure is on your co-ordinators to assure that next weeks event is equally as successful.

Our gun A graders are back in action.
Luke H was too quick for Tony McR, with Toby C and Steve G having good runs.

In B grade, I was able to take advantage of Glenn M's injury to come home first. Rebecca J and Joanna R enjoyed there run.

C grade saw Brad S home before Frank E, with Mel B , Ged S and Laura J next in line.

Sofie vG, John G and Heather L enjoyed D grade.

As has been the case for several recent series, the real competition is with the walkers.
4 points separated a pack of 8 walkers.
Leader on the night with 54 points was Henk K, with Tom F, Janita S and Allison B next (53 pts), then Des G (52 pts) followed by the Clonard gang - Lynda McM, Elna E and Lynden Y (50 pts).

I enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces return to StreetO along with many new faces. We've got a real buzz happening with MyO Maps so lots to look forward to in this series.

Our next event is on Thursday 16th November at Richmond Reserve. Be part of the buzz !!

Cheers,
Alan Cooke
