Storm Alert Continues

Monday, 27 November 2017

Geelong Street-O  -  Storm Alert Continues

The incredible extended period of hot, humid and stormy weather continued for last Thursday, again threatening to put a damper on our Street Orienteering.

Again our Geelong participants were not perturbed and turned out in strong numbers, and were rewarded with a (largely) dry event. Participants were warned of a group observed pre-event, dressed in medieval costume and practicing their sword craft and archery. Fortunately all our participants were accounted for at event's end !!

We continue to operate with control plates out and all participants carrying the punch cards, while trialling the MyOMaps app method. Approximately 85% of participants choose to try MyOMaps - a very strong uptake. As mentioned last week, the issues that we are seeing with MyOMaps are largely down to many of us simply needing time to become more familiar with the system. We're aiming to create a document that reminds participants of the actions they need to take to avoid the common issues that have been identified.

Again Tony McR was first home in A grade, the returning Mark C second and the consistent Toby C next.

Heath McL is beginning to get the hang of street orienteering with a first place in B grade, with Glenn M next, ahead of Stuart McW and Gary L.

Duncan McL returned for his first event of the year and win C grade, spoiling the party for 2nd place Brad S. Tegan W having her first run was next home from Carmel B and Mel B.

LAura P was 1st home in D grade, ahead of Madeleine D.

The usual tight tussle returned with the Walkers this week. Ben K on 63 points was again the winner, just narrowly over a host of people on 62 points (Leonie S, Fiona K, Henk deJ, Lyndne Y, Lynda McM and Elna E).

We're well into the series now and it is very pleasing for your co-ordinators to see that our participation numbers have been strong even while the weather conditions have been sticky at best.

This weeks event will be on Thursday 30/11 at Goldsworthy Reserve, Corio at 7pm.

If you haven't ventured out this series yet, make a date this week. Don't wait  - come and join the fun !!

Cheers,
Alan Cooke
