A Sanctuary from the Year End Rush
Wednesday, 14 December 2016
Geelong Street-O - A Sanctuary from the Year End Rush We can’t always have perfect conditions for Street-O and last Thursday evening was one of those nights that tested the dedication of Geelong Street-O participants.
I was one of those that had commitments elsewhere, so missed out on the pleasure of running around my old backyard. The Barwon River paths and surrounding streets are a great place for a run (or walk).
Starting from Balyang Sanctuary, the course that Luke set offered a challenge for all.
Ron T returned for another strong run and first placing in A grade, with Ed S and Andrew T next home.
With a small field, Sofie saw the opportunity to snag a first place in B grade only to find that Toby had taken a break from A grade to give his dog a run over the shorter distance. True to form Toby was first home, leaving a frustrated Sofie to come in next followed by Don F.
Stuart McW had his best result for the series in C grade, to be first home from Peter B, Damian W and Paul.
Heather had D grade to herself.
The weekly churn of leaders in the walking continued this week. It seems that the biggest challenge for the night was to return on time, with half the field receiving penalty points for overshooting the 8:05 deadline. The standouts this week were John and Linden Y with 64 points, with Tom F next (59 pts).
We’re now at the halfway mark of the series, with the Christmas break allowing everyone to eat, drink and be merry before again focusing on the more physically healthy activities.
We will resume at Jan Juc on Thursday 2nd Feb, but before then I’m looking forward to the Saturdays through January, with the Surf Coast series offering the opportunity of a late afternoon run, book ended by a swim and a cold drink.
Check out the details of both series on this website.
