Summer Series Gets Underway

For the next five months, orienteers will be out in force all over Melbourne, as well as in Geelong, the Surf Coast, and Macedon Ranges.  With events four nights a week, every week, there is no excuse not to grab a map and go for a run or walk in your local area!

We kicked off on Monday at Gardiners Bend in the leafy south, nestled against Gardiners Creek and taking in the genteel streets and gentle (?) hills of East Malvern - a great introduction to the Southern Series.  The action shifted west on Tuesday, with the first Western series event at Kensington, a map famous for its complexity and confusion, and always a crowd favourite.

The week's highlight was undoubtedly Wednesday, when the Eastern series swung into action at Forest Chase.  The prestigious MEFTY trophy was awarded to Stuart McWilliam, who smashed the previous record by attending 166 of a possible 189 events last year!  Stuart is already on the countdown for a repeat performance.  A great course that had everyone talking was followed by a sausage sizzle, and winter presentations.

We wrapped up week 1 on Thursday at Greensborough, where we enjoyed quite a challenge for brain and body alike on the hills and along the riverside parkland.  A great finale to a fabulous week.
