Ashwood South

Tuesday, 31 October 2017

A refreshing shower which conveniently cleared out right on queue at 6.45 did not dampen spirits.  This is the most interesting part of the Ashwood map, with lots of twists and bends to contend with - it's quite easy to find yourself misplaced (as I almost did heading to no 16).  Great course by Bernie, with longer courses facing the dilemma of whether to cross the railway; and plenty of post-race debate about what to drop.

Andrew H, Ian, and Steven were fastest finishers on A course.  Bruce, Jay and Eleanor were quickest on B - Eleanor is visiting from the UK, where she orienteers regularly, and for the next 6 weeks she'll be offering stiff competitition!  Damian won C course from Phil, with newcomers Guy and Lisa getting the hang of things pretty quickly.  Murray got back ahead of me and Margi on D course.  Dave scored 62 points on PW, while Helen finished a smidgeon in front of Tony, Ros and Barry.

Overall, Andrew has 3 wins from 3 on A course, Helen is second, and David third.  Jay has the early lead on B, ahead of Andrew H and Lauris, with Stuart just one point out of the top three. Damian's win moved him to the top of the C course standings, with Amanda second and Eric and Reg tied for third.    I'm holding the lead on D course ahead of Pete and Allan, who is just one point clear of Pat.  Dave leads Barry and Hans on PW, with Chris and Ian just behind.

See you next Monday at Nortons Park - being a pseudo holiday, traffic will be light, and the park will be a delight!

Monday Night Series

About this series:

Where: Southern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne

When: 7:00pm Mondays; all year round

Cost:  $5 per event for adults, $2 for juniors (under 21)

What to bring: jogging/walking shoes and comfortable, light coloured clothing.  Bring a watch, a drink, and a torch for winter events (late March-mid October).

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early. This will provide time to help you register for the event and explain how to take part.

Groups (schools, scouts, sports or social) are extremely welcome, but please contact us at least a week prior to the event so we can ensure enough maps are printed.

In summer (October-March), there are 4 runners courses ranging from 3.5-10 km, and a 60 minute power walkers' course.  For runners the format is Scatter (visit a designated number of controls in any order, first back wins), and for power walkers the format is Score format (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time).

Enquiries: tel 0409 959 673 (Annie)

In winter (March-October), there are 25 controls marked on the map.  Choose one of two formats - a 60 minute Score course (visit as many controls as you can in the allocated time, aiming to score as many points as possible), or a "Target" course, where you aim to achieve a target score between 4 and 36 points.

Enquiries: 0409 135 020 (Debbie)
