Park and Street Orienteering
More Fun Than the Same Old Run
Bored with running the same old block? Tired of trudging on the treadmill? Looking for a new way to give your brain and body a boost? Want to see new places and meet new faces?
Park and Street Orienteering provides the perfect combination of mental and physical exercise. You do not need a compass or any special map reading ability. However, it will test your thinking while giving you a great workout in a friendly, safe, outdoor environment. Events are held all over Melbourne, all year round.
Our events welcome people of all ages and abilities, and accommodate everyone from the elite sports person to those looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.
Families and friends can participate in groups or individually. Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.
Printed programs covering all of Melbourne are available at most events. Further information is also available on this website: Want to learn more? Click here

Waverley Parklands

This map is well known as a former Champs venue, and as one where if you get it wrong - you can get it very wrong! Local intel says head east - go down the hill under the power line, to avoid coming back up that hill at all costs. Those in the know have figured out the best way to return to the finish is from the south, where the contours ease off a bit. Course setter Ian didnt make these strategies particularly easy, but it was possible to circle the bottom of the hill and avoid the worst of it.
A course winners were Andrew, Steven and Helen. First back on B were Chris, Jay and Eleanor, while quickest on C were Amanda, Graham and Reg. Ian, me and Margi returned fastest on D course. The highest scoring power walkers were Dave on 64 points, Ros on 60, Garry and Helen on 58, and Barry on 57.
Overall, while Andrew has four wins from four starts, Helen and Geoff are both ahead of him in the standings, having completed five events. Ian and Steven are tied for fourth and fifth so that will be interesting to watch over coming weeks. Stuart and Lauris are tied for the B course lead ahead of Robert; Jay has the early form but is one event in arrears. Damian leads C course (his course setting score needs to be added), with Eric and second and three time winner Amanda third. D course has me, Pete, and Allan filling the top three. Dave is out in front on PW, Barry is second, and Chris third; Helen and Garry are showing great form as well.
See you next Monday at Camelot Rise.
