Max Neve

The Victoria Nuggets women have extended their lead in the SILVA National Orienteering League, with a strong team effort at the ACT Championships.

Kathryn Ewels placed in each of the Sprint, Middle and Long distance races, with Jasmine Neve just behind her.  Although Neve injured her ankle in the Long Distance race, Clare Brownridge and Natasha Key ensured that the team result did not suffer.

Our men also had their best weekend of the year, finishing second in each of the races, behind the undefeated NSW Stingers. Bruce Arthur (sprint) and Chris Naunton (middle) had their best runs of the year, both placing fourth. Our depth was demonstrated in the long distance race, where Victoria finished with 5 of the top 10 runners. 

With five races remaining on home soil in Spring, the Victoria Nuggets should be able to hold on to first (women) and third (men) in the teams competition.

Individual performance stood out in the junior competition, with Aislinn Prendergast winning the junior elite class of the ACT Long Distance Championships, and Max Neve claiming the junior ACT Sprint Distance title.

The Australian WOC selectors now have the difficult task of selecting one of our strongest women's teams ever,  and (with the top 3 men unavailable for WOC selection) deciding how many men will get the chance to represent Australia this year. The team announcement will be made later this week.
