THE MILLENNIUM CLUB
Legends of Street-O
The Park & Street Orienteering Committee has sanctioned the formation of THE MILLENNIUM CLUB which will acknowledge and honor the long serving participants of Park & Street Orienteering in metropolitan Melbourne.
Membership
Legend Member: Participates in 1000 Street-O events since the start of this millennium (1st January, 2000) and will be regarded as a full member of The Millennium Club. Legend members will be presented with a special TMC cloth badge(1000), a special TMC(Legend) key-ring and a Certificate of Recognition. Legend members will be identified with a number which represents the chronological order in which they have qualified for The Millennium Club.
Companion Member: Participates in 750 Street-O events since the start of this millennium (1st January, 2000) and will be regarded as a provisional member of The Millennium Club. Companion members will be acknowledged with a special TMC cloth badge(750).
Associate member: Participates in 500 Street-O events since the start of this millennium (1st January, 2000) and will be regarded as a provisional member of The Millennium Club. Associate members will be acknowledged with a special TMC cloth badge(500).
Attendance
Participation in all metropolitan Melbourne Street-O events since the 1st January 2000 has been recorded on The Millennium Club Attendance Database and will be updated at the end of each series. The database will be displayed on a link attached to the OVic website for all Street-O participants whose attendance exceeds 100 events.
As at the 14th April, 2010, 4 orienteers had reached the Legend milestone, 18 orienteers had reached the Companion milestone and another 28 orienteers had reached the Associate milestone. A total membership of 50
Note: (i) Eligible events are those listed in OVic’s Melbourne Park & Street Orienteering Program
(excluding Sunday Special Events) and held in metropolitan Melbourne.
(ii) Individuals who DNF will be recorded as having participated. (Must visit at least one control).
(iii) Group entries will only be recorded where special circumstances exist.
(iv) Individuals within groups will not be recorded.
(v) Course setters will be recorded as participating when identified in results.

PETER KEMPSTER is LEGEND #5
Congratulations to Peter Kempster who became only the 5th person to be elevated to LEGEND membership of the Millennium Club.
Peter completed his 1000th Street-O event on Wednesday 28th July, 2010 on the Camelot Rise map in Glen Waverley.
A wily and passionate street orienteer, Peter's achievement will be honoured with the Legend key-ring, "1000" cloth badge and a Certificate of Achievement at the annual Millennium Club Dinner to be held at the end of the summer season.
SUE GURMAN, ANDREW BAKER, ROGER SLADE and DAVID BEARD reach TMC MILESTONES.
Sue Gurman and Andrew Baker upgraded their Millennium Club memberships to Companion status when they both completed 750 Street-O events recently. Sue whipped around the Cathies Creek map on Saturday 10th July, 2010 to achieve the her Companion membership while Andrew did likewise one week later on the Merri Creeklands (South) map. Andrew is the youngest person to achieve Companion membership. Well done Andrew.
Roger Slade and David Beard are the latest street orienteers to be admitted to The Millennium Club. Roger gained Associate membership when he completed his 500th event on the Cathies Creek map in Wantirna South on Saturday 10th July, 2010. David became an Associate member after he defied the wintry elements on Wednesday 14th July, 2010 in Croydon on the Maroondah Triangle map to tick over his 500th event.
Congratulations to all four. Badge presentation will take place at the annual dinner at the end of the Summer season.
LAURIS STIRLING COMPLETES 750
Lauris Stirling became only the sixth female member of the Millennium Club to gain Companion membership when she completed her 750th Street-O event on the MitchellHill map in Oakleigh East on the 23rd June, 2010. A talented runner and regular course setter on behalf of the Nillumbik Emus, Lauris is a tireless supporter to the metropolitan Melbourne Street-O program. Congratulations Lauris.
MARTA SALEK - YOUNGEST PERSON TO JOIN THE MILLENNIUM CLUB
Marta Salek became the youngest person to gain Associate membership of The Millennium Club when on the 2nd June, 2010 at the Scoresby event she completed her 500th Street-O event at the age of 29 years and 8 months. Marta wrests the honour from Adam Scammell who achieved such status last year. Congratulations Marta on this significant achievement.
IAN JAMES UPGRADES TO COMPANION MEMBERSHIP
At the Ringwood Wilds event on 26th May 2010, Ian James completed his 750th Street-O event since the start of this millennium. Ian is now upgraded to Companion member of The Millennium Club and is only the sixth person to achieve this milestone in the past year. Well done Ian.
BAILES and KNIGHT JOIN THE MILLENNIUM CLUB
Rick Bailes and David Knight both became Associate Members of The Millennium Club when they recently completed their 500th Street-O event since the 1st January, 2000. Rick achieved the milestone at the Bayswater event on 21st April, 2010 and David at the Blackburn Lake event on 28th April, 2010. Both orienteers have been regular participants in street orienteering since the early 1900s.
THE MILLENNIUM CLUB DINNER - 2010
The Millennium Club 2nd Annual Dinner and Presentations were held in the Bistro of the Shoppingtown Hotel on Wednesday 14th April, 2010.
The well attended dinner welcomed the four inaugural Legend members - Geoff Hudson, Mike Hubbert, Ken O'Brien and John Sheahan. The attending Legends were introduced by the President of Orienteering Victoria Ian Dodd and presented with their special badge, Legend key-ring and Certificate of Achievement by P&S elder, Wally Cavill.
The new Companion members, Schon Hudson, Bryan Ackerly, Ray Howe and Dale Howe were presented with their badges by P&S elders Pat and Alan Miller. Companion member Ian Greenwood was overseas.
Nine new street orienteers qualified for Associate membership: Marion Johnson, Kevin Maloney, Peter Maloney, Paul Leicester, Margi Freemantle, Eric Davidson, Adam Scammell, Tim Dent and Ken James. Attending members were presented with their 500 badge by P&S elder Barry Cross.
After the presentations, Ian provided an interesting summary of the healthy development of Park and Street Orienteering and a timely reminder to all participants that significant volunteering is a critical factor in maintaining a successful P&S program.
Ian then took the opportunity to
formally announce the
recipients of three Park and Street Orienteering Awards.The evening concluded with the identification of the winner of the Street-O Trivia competition which required the guests to select the most used maps in Street-O since November, 2004. Significantly the winner was Legend #1, Geoff Hudson.
