Community Orienteering

Students from Year 8 ( 8LP, 8PC and 8HM)  each spent a day learning how to navigate in the bush at Macedon. The three days were great. The staff enjoyed teaching and the students enjoyed learning in the different environment.

What did the students learn?

The session culminated with a great STAR RELAY.

Students worked as a team of two, but had to navigate solo to each control site.

It was challenging, fun and great exercise.

How much exercise did they do?

If students completed 2 courses plus the star relay they took approx 7000 steps.

Three courses or more and they would have done between 8000 – 10,000 steps.

What a great way to get fit!

The next two ‘Park and Street Orienteering’ events for your calendar are:

  1. Tuesday 4th    March Kensington: meet at J.J.Holland Park, Kensington Rd, Melways 42 J3
  2. Tuesday 11th March Essendon:   meet Essendon Station car park, Rose St opp. Miller St.

                      Melways 28 G4

The events start at 7pm so you need to get there between 6.20pm and 6.30pm to register and become familiar with ‘what to do’. When you arrive: go to the Registration Table and say ‘we are new, from Gilson College’ and you will get help. If unsure ask for Ken or Jenny – they know you are coming!  Make sure you write “ GIL” on your control card so we can track Gilson College Community people attending.

Remember to access our website, and view the special Gilson College page.
