On Wednesday 6th February I met with many parents and staff at the General Information evening held at school. A number of people collected information and spoke with me, showing an eagerness to come along and try orienteering….”This looks really great” ….”I can’t wait to come and try it”. …were some comments.

I was pleased to be able to attend for the whole session and learn more about the school, its aims, curriculum and administration. The Gilson College philosophy links well into Orienteering: an outdoor recreation, a family sport, one which demands a degree of individual responsibility and much decision making.

On Wednesday 13th Feb. I’ll be attending the Year 9 Learning for Life information evening. I hope to talk with many more students and parents.

The next two events for your calendar are:

  1. Tuesday 12th Feb. Cairnlea: meet at Deer Park Primary School, Carmody Drive. Melways 25 H5
  2. Tuesday 19th Feb. Newport: meet Greenwich Reserve, corner The Strand and North Road. Melways 56 B5

The events start at 7pm so you need to get there between 6.20pm and 6.30pm to register and become familiar with ‘what to do’. When you arrive: go to the Registration Table and say ‘we are new, from Gilson College’ and you will get help. Make sure you write “ GIL” on your control card so we can track Gilson College Community people attending.

Local Orienteering Clubs

Members of the local orienteering clubs will be present.

Ken, from Tuckonie Orienteering Club and Jenny from Bayside Kangaroos Orienteering Club will be there to welcome and assist you.
