Geelong Street-O, Eastern Park event, Thursday 4/3/10

The depth of support for Geelong Street-O was on display at Eastern Park with 77 participants for the last event of the summer series.

Heather and John busily calculating the PW course results.

For many of the runners this was their first experience of a score event (don’t forget your watches next time !!).

Our mentors, John and Jenny Sheahan set a challenging course incorporating the bayside views and great use of the surrounding parkland.

Glenn-Jenny and Rachel sorting it out!

A mass start ensured an impressive sight as participants, including some leading dogs and others pushing strollers, headed off to all points of the compass.

A great time was had by family groups.

At the completion of this event, participants enjoyed a light snack and chat prior to a presentation to series winners. Some of our enterprising regulars had the foresight to arrange a pizza delivery to the park !!

Peter won course B and Kerry notched up a first in the PW group.

For most grades, series winners were beyond contention with Luke Haines and Greer Sansom dominating A-grade, Peter Thomson the only B-grade participant with the minimum 6 events, Tim Anderson and Kerilee Haines unassailable in C-grade, and the reluctant Street-O man Michael Mutton a tear away winner in D-grade along with Heather Leslie.

Luke- Kerrilee and friends after the event.

The hot contest was in the Power Walking with the decision going down to the wire. As it turned out, Kerry Thomson edged out Helen Alexander and Sarah Murray. Ron Crawford was the leading male Power Walker for the series.

Stuart And Tania with Ron and Lorraine after the event.

Special mention should go to those participants that attended all 10 events of the summer series: Greer Sansom, Glenn Martini, Michael Mutton, Simone Volkmann, Lorraine and Ron Crawford, and John and Jenny Sheahan.

With the completion of this series and continuing strong support, the thoughts of the co-ordinating committee now to turn to what's next – more news to follow in the coming weeks.
