Park and Street Orienteering
More Fun Than the Same Old Run
Bored with running the same old block? Tired of trudging on the treadmill? Looking for a new way to give your brain and body a boost? Want to see new places and meet new faces?
Park and Street Orienteering provides the perfect combination of mental and physical exercise. You do not need a compass or any special map reading ability. However, it will test your thinking while giving you a great workout in a friendly, safe, outdoor environment. Events are held all over Melbourne, all year round.
Our events welcome people of all ages and abilities, and accommodate everyone from the elite sports person to those looking for a good walk to help stay in shape.
Families and friends can participate in groups or individually. Groups such as schools, scouts, sports or social clubs are very welcome - but please contact us at least a week prior to the event, so we can make sure enough maps are printed.
Printed programs covering all of Melbourne are available at most events. Further information is also available on this website: Want to learn more? Click here

Magic Mountains of Melbourne
Friday, 18 December 2009
It's been a tough week for orienteers in Melbourne's east, and not just because of the number of contours we've been asked to conquer by the course setters. Each night has had a different challenge. On Monday we headed to Wicks Reserve in The Basin, a new start area and an extension to the Harvey Heights map, cleverly dubbed "Wick-O-Pedia". Taking in sections of the nearby National Park, the scenery was beautiful and sections of the course were more akin to bush orienteering. Just a reminder - courses do close at 8.15, for safety reasons, so if you havent completed yours by then, you must return to the finish. Otherwise you may be the subject of a search and rescue.
At Glenfern Run on Wednesday, the soaring 38 degree temperatures took their toll as we tried (in vain) to figure out how to get the necessary controls while climbing a minimum number of contours. The five "D" course competitors took 5 different routes so congratulations to the course setters for bamboozling us!
Only in Melbourne - by Thursday afternoon it was pouring rain and down to a chilly sub-20 degree temperature, so at the aptly named Mount Eagle, our problem became how to stay dry! Luckily the rain cleared right away between 7 and 8pm and we had a very enjoyable evening before the next downpour, with only wet feet to worry about as we crossed the Yarra Flats section.
Next Monday features a wonderful new map at Berwick, and with traffic easing as people start their holidays, why not head to the southeast for something different?
